Energy Day 2026: energy transition after blackout
Iberian Lawyer, with Finacecommunity.es, holds a new edition of IBL Energy Day, a meeting that brings together leading experts from the legal, financial and business worlds to analyse the challenges, opportunities and prospects of the energy transition in Spain and Europe, with the support of Five Bioenergy and Fivers.
The event, which takes place in Espacio Larra (Madrid), revolves around a highly topical issue: “Assessing the energy transition after the blackout”.
The conference attended by general counsels, executives from energy companies, representatives from banks, funds and investors, as well as partners from law firms specialising in energy and infrastructure financing.
The programme is divided into two key sessions
The recent blackout has reignited the debate on the resilience of Europe’s energy systems, the pace of the energy transition, and the investments needed to prevent future disruptions. These issues take centre stage at the upcoming Energy Day conference, bringing together leading legal, financial and industry experts to discuss the future of Spain’s energy landscape.
The event open with a roundtable entitled “Driving the transition: The Rules of the Game for renewables, nuclear and beyond after the blackout.” Moderated by Ilaria Iaquinta, Editor-in-Chief of Iberian Lawyer and FinancecommunityES, the discussion explore how the blackout has reshaped regulatory priorities, renewable energy development, grid stability, and the role of emerging technologies in ensuring security of supply.
The panel feature Davide Tramballi (Plenitude), Rocío Chacón Carmona (Cox Energy), Eduardo García (Moeve), Alicia Juristo Contreras (Enagás Renovable), and Federico Silva Ortiz (Simm Group & Arba Energy), offering perspectives from across the energy sector.

Following a networking coffee break, the focus shift to financing with the second roundtable, “Financing the future: Investment in clean energy and nuclear power after the blackout.” Moderated by Gonzalo Blázquez, journalist at FinancecommunityES and Iberian Lawyer, the session will analyse how investors, banks and private capital are reassessing risk, funding priorities and long-term opportunities in the energy sector.

The discussion bring together José María Arzac (Qualitas Energy), Álvaro Fernández Quiñones (ING), Luis González García (Five Bioenergy), Chema Zabala (Alantra Energy Transition), and Alfonso Zuloaga (Intesa Sanpaolo).
The event conclude with a closing keynote by Maria Teresa Solaro (Fivers), who provide an international perspective on the evolution of the energy and project finance market, including a comparison between Spain and Italy and the implications of new energy policies across Europe.

Networking and closing
The event ends with an informal lunch, preceded by a closing speech summarising the main conclusions of the day. In addition to providing legal and economic keys, IBL Energy Day 2026 has established itself as a benchmark meeting point for those who are leading – from different angles – the future of energy in Spain and Europe.
