Formalize partners with UNE to integrate ISO standards

Formalize has entered into an official collaboration with UNE (Asociación Española de Normalización), the Spanish body representing ISO and IEC standards. The agreement – the first of its kind in Spain – will allow the official ISO documentation to be integrated directly into the Formalize platform for the Spanish market, with the aim of making compliance management more practical and operational for companies and SMEs.

Under the partnership, organisations will be able to manage ISO requirements, controls, evidence and related activities within a single digital environment, reducing reliance on PDFs, spreadsheets and manual processes. For other European markets, Formalize will make available localised versions of the ISO content developed for Spain, designed to support day-to-day application of the standards, without replacing the official references of each national market.

About Formalize

Formalize is a Danish scaleup founded in 2021 in Aarhus by Magnus Boye, Kristoffer Abell and Jakob Lilholm. The company develops SaaS solutions for governance, risk management and compliance (GRC), covering areas such as GDPR, ISO 27001, NIS2, DORA and whistleblowing. Its platform is used by more than 8,000 companies, reaching a total of around 15 million users, and it works with a network of over 900 consulting firms and law firms. Formalize has offices in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Milan, Munich and Madrid, employs more than 160 people and has been operating in Italy since 2024 through its Milan office, serving over 1,200 Italian companies and SMEs.

Thanks to the agreement, Formalize will integrate official ISO standards directly into its platform, allowing compliance teams to consult and apply them in a more streamlined way. The objective is to narrow the gap between what standards require and the concrete actions companies must take to achieve compliance, making structured compliance management more accessible even for organisations without large in-house specialist teams.

“PDF standards remain essential as a source of information, but they were not designed for everyday operations. Our platform turns requirements into concrete actions, ensuring that systems and standards speak the same language. Being selected to develop advanced GRC tools with the contribution of an official ISO/IEC representative is the strongest confirmation that we are moving in the right direction,” said Jakob Lilholm, CEO of Formalize.

A central element of the collaboration will be Formalize IQ, the company’s AI-based functionality designed to help teams interpret standards, identify compliance gaps and translate requirements into actionable tasks. For the Spanish market, Formalize IQ will work on officially integrated standards rather than unverified data sources, with the aim of providing more reliable and source-aligned support.

“The way organisations consult and implement standards must evolve to meet the needs of the digital era. By integrating our official frameworks into an operational system such as Formalize, we can ensure that global standards remain accessible and practically applicable for modern businesses,” said Pablo A. Corróns Crespí, director of Intellectual Property and Standards Distribution at UNE.
