Baker McKenzie Barlona receives Leed and Well Gold certifications
Baker McKenzie has received the Leed and Well (Gold level) certifications, two sustainability certifications in the real estate sector, following the comprehensive renovation of its Barcelona offices over the past year.
“The certifications endorse the efficiency, health standards and environmental responsibility of the new space, states the law firm. Mireia Sabaté (pictured), managing partner of Baker McKenzie Barcelona, stated that the new certifications mark a milestone for the firm, as they “represent a starting point for a new stage in our 38-year history in the city. The new space responds to a vision for the future and clearly reflects our internal commitment, as well as our commitment to our clients, to continue innovating and evolving in an even more collaborative, inspiring and sustainable environment.”
About the certifications
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), issued globally by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is a sustainability certification implemented in the real estate market. It verifies that projects have been designed and executed using strategies aimed at reducing environmental impact, with particular focus on energy savings, water-use efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and the sustainable use of resources and materials free from hazardous and polluting substances. This certification aligns with the E and S pillars of ESG criteria.
The WELL certification provides international recognition of the new offices’ commitment to people’s wellbeing, health and quality of life. This distinction, awarded by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), confirms that the office interior meets the highest environmental standards, focusing on air and water quality, thermal comfort, lighting, acoustics, connection with natural elements, movement, and flexibility in the use of spaces.
