CMS to reshuffle IP/TMT department

According to Iberian Lawyer sources, CMS is preparing a significant reshuffle in its Spanish IP/TMT practice. The move comes as María González Gordon is expected to be on her way out of CMS. One of the best-known names in the Spanish IP market, González Gordon stepped down from the firm’s management in April 2025 but remained at the helm of the Intellectual Property, Industrial Property and Digital Business practice.

According to market chatter, the expected reshuffle would see Álvaro Seijo arrive from Uría Menéndez to take on the intellectual and industrial property side of María González Gordon ’s work, while Javier Torre de Silva would become the key figure on the TMT and digital front. The two would split the practice by area, with Seijo taking IP and industrial property and Torre de Silva taking TMT and digital. Heding the practice Torre de Silva

Seijo was counsel at Uría Menéndez, where he advised on intellectual property, digital law, unfair competition and advertising. Torre de Silva is partner and Head of TMC at CMS Spain, with extensive experience in telecommunications, media and technology matters. TMC in Spain, while no official confirmation of González Gordon’s departure has yet surfaced.
