Alfonso Codes and Lucas Osorio join the CEA’s Arbitrator Appointment Committee

The Plenary of the Corte Española de Arbitraje (CEA) has approved the appointment of Alfonso Codes and Lucas Osorio as new members of the Court’s Arbitrator Appointment Committee. The Committee is now composed of Elena Otero-Novas, as chair, and Alfonso Codes and Lucas Osorio, as members.

The Arbitrator Appointment Committee is the body responsible for determining the number of arbitrators, as well as their appointment and confirmation, both when they are proposed by the parties and in cases of disagreement, ensuring impartiality and compliance with the applicable rules. Its functions include technical selection, monitoring of candidates and ensuring their suitability.

Profiles of the new members

Alfonso Codes is managing partner and head of the public law and regulatedsSectors department at CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo, and is also a State attorney on leave. He has professional experience across all areas related to public administrations, both advisory and contentious. Throughout his career, he has held senior positions within the General State Administration, including serving as Secretary-General for Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment. He is also the author of numerous articles and publications and lectures at prestigious institutions such as Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE, the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economía, and the Legal Studies Centre of the Ministry of Justice.

Lucas Osorio is founding partner of MO Estudio Legal. He has developed his career in both the public and private sectors and, prior to establishing his own firm, was a partner in the Corporate/M&A practice at Hogan Lovells and served for seven years as managing partner of its Spain office. He has held the position of chief State lawyer in various ministries; general counsel and board secretary of Cintra, prior to its merger with Ferrovial; and board member and/or secretary of numerous companies in Spain and abroad. Osorio is currently secretary to the board of Metrovacesa, president of the Spanish Issuers Association, and a member of the Advisory Committee of the CNMV. In addition, his work extends to arbitration, where he has acted as an arbitrator for more than 30 years in a wide range of proceedings and jurisdictions.
