Latham & Watkins advises Intuitive on Southern Europe acquisition
Latham & Watkins has advised Intuitive on the acquisition of distribution activities related to its da Vinci and Ion surgical systems across Southern Europe.
The legal team was led by partner Giovanni Sandicchi, together with Federica Ventura, Alessandra Stabilini, Rachele Grassini and Angelica Ottolina. Regulatory aspects of the transaction were handled by partner Cesare Milani, supported by Edoardo Cassinelli and Giulio Catalani. The Spanish law aspects of the transaction were managed by lawyers from the firm’s Madrid office, including Marino Aineto, José Luis Bootello and Ana María Marino.
Acquisition of distribution activities
The transaction involves the acquisition of distribution activities previously carried out by Ab Medica, Abex and Excelencia Robótica, together with their respective subsidiaries.
Through the deal, Intuitive will expand its direct presence across several markets in Southern Europe, including Spain, Portugal, Italy, Malta and San Marino.
Expansion of robotic surgery technologies
The acquisition forms part of Intuitive’s strategy to strengthen its position in the European market for robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive medical technologies.
By integrating distribution activities in the region, the company aims to improve access to its surgical platforms and support the continued development of robotic-assisted healthcare solutions in Europe.
