Andersen hires Javier Ortega as real estate partner
Andersen has strengthened its real estate practice with the appointment of Javier Ortega as partner. The lawyer joins the firm with a team composed of Gerardo Cólera, senior associate, and Inés Isidro, associate. He joins from Stender Deuretsbacher Heher. Previously, he was a partner at Herbert Smith (Madrid) and at Cuatrecasas, where he also led the real estate department.
Ortega brings more than 20 years of experience advising on complex real estate transactions at national and international law firms. His practice focuses on commercial real estate assets, including office buildings, logistics platforms, hotels and tourism complexes.
Throughout his career, he has advised on sale and leaseback transactions, urban planning matters, mortgage law and structured real estate finance. His experience also includes transactions involving the acquisition of non-performing loans (NPLs) and debt restructuring processes linked to real estate assets.
In addition to his professional practice, Ortega teaches real estate finance and acquisition at the Global Master in Real Estate Development (GMRED) at IE School of Architecture and Design. He holds a law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Vienna, where he also obtained a PhD in law. He has been recognised by international legal directories such as Chambers Europe and Legal 500.
Commenting on the appointment, José Vicente Morote, managing partner of Andersen Iberia, highlighted that Ortega’s international profile and extensive experience strengthen the firm’s real estate capabilities, particularly in transactions linked to the financial sector.
Ortega joins Andersen’s real estate practice, which advises national and international companies, funds, socimis, developers and construction companies across the full lifecycle of real estate transactions, from due diligence to financing structures and contractual arrangements.
According to César Morales, partner and head of the real estate practice, Ortega’s experience in complex transactions and deep knowledge of the sector will further reinforce the firm’s ability to provide comprehensive advice to clients.
