ICAM Proposes a Solution to Ensure Fair Retirement for Lawyers

The Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) has unveiled a groundbreaking legislative proposal aimed at securing a dignified retirement for mutualist lawyers. This initiative, developed by labor law expert María Emilia Casas, addresses the urgent need to resolve pension gaps and inequalities for legal professionals who do not currently participate in the Spanish public pension system.

The proposal focuses on three main actions: creating a legal pathway for mutualist lawyers to join the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers (RETA), improving fiscal policies to enhance economic benefits, and solidifying pension supplements for retired mutualists.

ICAM’s Dean, Eugenio Ribón, emphasized the transformative nature of the proposal, calling on the government and political parties to take legislative action. He stated, “This is not just another legal reform—it’s a crucial step to change the future of our legal profession.”

The proposal is seen as a response to a complex issue that affects many lawyers, particularly those receiving inadequate pensions from private mutualist systems. ICAM aims to provide lawyers with the option to transfer their pension contributions to RETA, ensuring a more secure and equitable retirement.
