ESADE and RAMCO analyse litigation funding in Spain
This week marked the inaugural Ramco-Esade Forum, a significant gathering aimed at fostering knowledge sharing, stimulating debates, and becoming a focal point for legal professionals interested in Litigation Financing. The event unveiled the first independent report on Litigation Financing in Spain.
Hosted by Rebeca Carpi, vice dean of Esade Law School, the roundtable was skillfully moderated by Patricia Saiz, professor of Arbitration at the Law School. Distinguished speakers included Cristina Soler (CEO of Ramco Litigation Funding), Diego Agulló (professor of Private International Law at ICADE), Antonio Muñoz-Murillo (director of Litigation at Iberdrola Legal Services), Carmen Alonso (partner in Litigation and Arbitration at Baker & McKenzie), and Natalia Font (professor of Procedural Law at Esade).
The report, based on the broadest survey conducted in Spain to date (involving over 106 legal professionals and 8 in-depth interviews), reveals compelling insights. Notably, over 90% of respondents express a keen interest in understanding Litigation Financing solutions, underlining the high growth expectations for this practice in the coming years.
Moreover, 75% of participants view Litigation Financing as a viable alternative, considering it a key tool for risk management in the current economic landscape.
Perhaps most intriguing is the revelation that 9 out of 10 users who have already availed themselves of Litigation Financing express high satisfaction levels and express a willingness to repeat the experience. This underscores the perceived credibility and effectiveness of the financing model.
Litigation Financing emerges as a dynamic force in the legal realm, facing the challenge of establishing regulations that provide legal certainty and flexibility. Beyond benefiting financially constrained businesses, it offers risk mitigation opportunities for large enterprises.
Furthermore, Litigation Financing is becoming a viable professional option in the legal sector, creating new opportunities for emerging talents entering the professional market. This signifies a transformative shift in the legal landscape, opening avenues for young professionals to contribute meaningfully to the industry.
