Cuatrecasas adds a new of counsel for the tax area
Cuatrecasas has appointed José Antonio Fernández-Gorostiaga as a new advisor in the tax practice in the Basque Country. With his join, the firm wants to consolidate the advice it offers in all areas of business law from its offices in Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria, strengthening a team of 65 lawyers and 12 partners in the three territories.
Graduated in Economics and Business Studies from the University of Deusto, with a specialisation in Business Management, José Antonio Fernández-Gorostiaga has almost 30 years of professional experience as a tax advisor. He has participated in advisory and auditing projects with leading national and international institutions. The last decades of his career have been spent at BBVA where, as director of the entity’s Tax Bex Holding department, he has focused on the development of tax holding processes and their technological transformation. At the same time, he teaches as an associate professor of Financial Decisions and Taxation at the University of Deusto.
He will work from the Bilbao office with a highly qualified team with in-depth knowledge of the business world, institutions and the local tax system. José Antonio Fernández-Gorostiaga says: “I am very excited about this extraordinary professional opportunity and very grateful for the trust shown from the beginning by a firm of this level.
Cuatrecasas’ single office in the Basque Country continues to grow steadily, covering the legal needs of clients throughout the region and in neighbouring communities. The offices in Bilbao, San Sebastián and Vitoria together operate as the Firm’s third office in Spain, after Madrid and Barcelona. Among the services it provides, the Firm’s advice on commercial, tax and labour matters stands out, with extensive experience in commercial and maritime litigation, corporate restructuring and insolvency proceedings, and international trade.
“The incorporation of José Antonio is a new example of Cuatrecasas’ desire to offer sophisticated advice to our clients in the Basque Country, with international experience and the capacity to provide a first-class service in highly complex matters,” says Joanes Labayen, managing partner of the Basque Country office.
