Barahona Ferreira, who moves from COTEC Portugal, where she was Legal and public policy director, joins as the firm’s latest of counsel.

The lawyer will be responsible for managing the newly created Public Procurement and Access to Community Funds Practice area. Due to the vast experience she has in advising national and international clients on Tax, Commercial and Corporate matters, Susana Barahona Ferreira will also strengthen the firm’s responsiveness in these specific areas.

According to João Valadas Coriel, managing partner of VCA: “Susana’s integration is part of the strategy of diversification of the areas in which we operate, outlined in the wake of the pandemic context into which we were ‘pushed’ a little over a year ago”.

He adds: “At a time when Portuguese companies are anxiously awaiting the availability of Community Funds to face the crisis that has set in and that has led many to exhaust their reserves, we want to be in the ‘front squad’ and be perceived as an unavoidable Legal partner, capable of efficiently assisting them in a process that is often lacking in transparency and highly bureaucratic”.

João Valadas Coriel concludes by saying: ”We are absolutely convinced that the experience acquired by Susana in this area in recent years, as well as the skills she has in other areas of Law, will help us to respond, with increased efficiency, to job requests which have been increasing significantly in recent times”.

Susana Barahona Ferreira started her professional activity in 2000, at the Deloitte consultancy firm. In January 2010 she joined Miranda & Associados, where she remained until her transition to COTEC Portugal, in early 2018. She holds a degree in Law from the Catholic University of Portugal and holds a postgraduate degree in Taxation and Finance by the Institute of Financial and Tax Studies.
