Freshfields promotes Natalia Gómez to partner

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed Natalia Gómez as its new International Litigation and Arbitration partner

She joined Freshfields in 2000 and during more than 20 years of professional career at Freshfields, two of them as counsel, Natalia (pictured) has accumulated extensive experience in Civil and Commercial Litigation with a special focus on product liability and antitrust disputes, advising national and international clients in different sectors, especially in the pharmaceutical and tobacco sectors, as well as in Litigation related to financial assets, especially in the context of Insolvency reintegration actions.

Her enormous contribution to the firm is evident in cases such as the thalidomide cases, where she successfully represented the multinational pharmaceutical company Grünenthal in the collective claim filed by AVITE (Association of Victims of Thalidomide in Spain) for damages caused by the consumption of said product, amounting to €204 million and, more recently, Volvo-Renault in the so-called “truck cartel” and the claims filed for an alleged price overcharge.

Natalia holds a degree in Law and a Diploma in Corporate Legal Consultancy from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE, E-1) and is a lecturer on the ICADE Master’s degree in Access to the Legal Profession.

Rafael Murillo, head of the Litigation and Arbitration practice in Spain, said: “Natalia’s appointment demonstrates the strength of our practice in Spain and internationally, which continues to grow, year after year, to meet the demands of our clients and the market in litigation and arbitration. Natalia’s technical ability, professional skills and commitment are highly valued by our major clients, both nationally and internationally.”

David Franco, managing partner of Freshfields in Spain stated: “Throughout her career at Freshfields, Natalia has built a solid reputation in the market, gaining extensive experience in complex litigation and arbitration mandates. This appointment recognises her talent, hard work, professional commitment and contribution to the practice and the firm in Spain and internationally.”

The appointment will be effective from May 1 and joins 22 other lawyers in different legal disciplines at Freshfields worldwide, four of them in the Litigation and Arbitration department.
