In this special edition aimed at showcasing female talent in the legal sector, Cláudia da Cruz Almeida, Portuguese firm VdA partner, is featured on the Iberian Lawyer English version cover. In 2020, Cláudia was the top female dealmaker in Portugal, with six transactions totalling €3.8 billion. Another great woman appears on our Spanish cover, Raquel Flórez, partner head of the Employment Law department at Freshfields in Spain and responsible for promoting the firm’s diversity standards. Iberian Lawyer also brings the highlights of the first InspiraLAw Connect events, held online last month and focused on Lisbon and Madrid, respectively.

In this issue, we also shine the spotlight on Aviation and Aerospace Law. For this, Iberian Lawyer interviewed Pedro Fdez-Villamea Alemán, member and academic coordinator of the Spanish Association of Aeronautical and Space Law (AEDAE), Gabriel Vera Artázcoz, Legal director of the Spanish company SENER Aeroespacial, and the general counsel of TAP Air Portugal, Stéphanie Sá Silva. We complete this topic with a young “high-flying” lawyer, Ignacio Fernández, Dentons’ specialist in Aircraft Finance issues and our March “Young and Unstoppable” lawyer.
We travelled to the exotic Beijing to meet Pablo Cubel, managing partner of this office for Cuatrecasas. After 22 years at the firm, Pablo has worked in Madrid, Valencia, and this current destination, and he acknowledges that time has passed very quickly.

Besides, experts from Portuguese law firms´ Legal Marketing and Communication departments tell Iberian Lawyer how some of the biggest law firms in Portugal have reacted to the new challenges set by the pandemic situation and what was happening last year behind closed doors.

Other important keys to M&A, in this case in the Eurozone, are analysed for Iberian Lawyer by Manuel Urrutia, CEO at Confianz.

Exceptional collaborations complete this issue. Sara Molina Pérez- Tomé, a digital transformation consultant at Deloitte’s Legal Management Consulting area, and a member of Women in a Legal World, with the article “Agile or dead”. Dolores Lojo, general counsel of Iberoamerica at Securitas, describes to us “The meaning of Compliance in companies and women in the world of Compliance” as a member of the World Compiance Association. Finally, Manuel Muñoz, general counsel of Securitas Chile, reflects on “The role of private security” from the rostrum of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
