Óscar García Maceiras has left Banco Santander to join Inditex group´s Board of Directors

Óscar García Maceiras (pictured), until now group executive vice-president, general counsel and deputy secretary of the Board of Directors of Banco Santander, has joined the Board of Directors of Inditex as secretary-general and secretary of the Board, replacing Antonio Abril, who has been in this position for 32 years.

Inditex´Appointments Committee has agreed to propose to the Board of Directors the appointment of García Maceiras for this role after Abril asked to leave his role to focus on his duties as chairman of the Conference of Social Councils of Spanish Universities and of the Social Council of the University of A Coruña (UDC).

Pablo Isla, president of Inditex, has highlighted the figure of Antonio Abril “for his decisive contribution to the soundness of corporate governance and the reputation and image of the company.”

García Maceiras is a State Attorney and has held several positions as general counsel and head of Legal of various companies like Banco Pastor, Banco Popular and Sareb until his appointment in 2016 as general counsel of Banco Santander.

Inditex comprises eight brands: Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterqüe, sells in 202 markets through online platforms and has over 7,000 stores in 96 markets.
