Spanish ex-Prime Minister joins DLA

Former Prime Minister of Spain, José María Aznar, joins DLA Piper as a senior adviser to its Global Board. Aznar will be working as an external consultant, focusing his work primarily on Latin America.

Aznar was Prime Minister between 1996-2004, is a Director of News Corp, the global media group, and has been an external adviser to Endesa, Spain’s largest electricity company, advising on Latin America.
The Board itself includes George J. Mitchell, former senator and current US special envoy to the Middle
East, and Juan Picon, DLA Piper’s Co-Managing
Director, Groups and Sectors and Senior Partner in DLA Piper Spain.
“This high-profile addition demonstrates the importance of Latin America in the firm’s strategic plan,” says Juan Picón, “and also the role that Spain will play in developing that line of business.”
This is another example of how Latin America has become a crucial market for Spanish and international law firms, as they battle to break into such an important market.
