Clifford Chance recruits leading projects Partner

José Guardo, one of Spain’s leading projects and finance lawyers has moved from Garrigues to Clifford Chance.

Guardo has spent practically his entire career at Garrigues, which he joined in 1993, becoming a Partner in 2003 and where he lead the top tier projects practice.
He joined the UK-based firm after the summer vacation period.
The hire is a significant achievement for Clifford Chance, led in Spain by Ignacio Ojanguren, which despite having a traditionally strong domestic banking and finance practice has not featured among Spain’s leading projects firms to date.
The move comes however as Spain is seeing a dramatic reduction in new projects and infrastructure activity as a result of the Government’s austerity and cost-cutting budgets. Ongoing however is the privatisation process of the national airports operator (AENA) and of the country’s two largest airports Madrid Barajas and Barcelona El Prat.
Guardo is also a Professor in Commercial Law at Madrid’s Complutense University and a Professor of International Law at CEU Madrid.
