CMS hires lead Marimón to Madrid

Barcelona-based Marimón Abogados has confirmed that it is to open in Madrid with the hire of three Partners from CMS Albiñana & Suárez de Lezo.

The 40-lawyer firm has announced the hire of Partners Santiago Díez, José Miguel Martín-Zamorano and José Antonio Rodríguez to lead its development in the Spanish capital. The opening is the firm’s first office outside of Barcelona where it has operated since 1931 with a focus on commercial, corporate, litigation and public law issues. Marimón has a notably strong track record advising German companies on inbound investment.
Díez is a corporate and tax specialist and was previously the co-Head of the Tax Department at CMS having been a Partner since 2002. Martín-Zamorano’s focus is predominantly towards corporate and commercial agreements and real estate, he had been a Partner at the firm since 2005. Rodríguez is a restructuring and insolvency specialist who joined the firm in 2009.
The move reflects a trend among regional Spanish firms to expand into Madrid, increasingly regarded as the gateway for international investment across Iberia.
