WLW launches Galicia Chapter at the TSXG

The High Court of Justice of Galicia (TSXG) has hosted the official launch of the Galicia Chapter of Women in a Legal World (WLW), a non-profit association dedicated to promoting the visibility of female talent in the legal sector and fostering gender equality in decision-making roles.

The event was chaired by the President of the TSXG, Ignacio Picatoste Sueiras, together with the Mayor of A Coruña, Inés Rey García, and the Regional Minister of Finance and Public Administration, Miguel Corgos López-Prado, demonstrating strong institutional support for the initiative in Galicia.

The Galicia Chapter was presented before more than one hundred legal professionals by Carolina González Chas, WLW Galicia Chapter Head and driving force behind the initiative in the region, alongside María M. Pardo de Vera, Board Member of WLW and representative of the association’s President, Marlén Estévez.

González Chas, founding partner of the law firm Ayan Abogados y Asesores and President of the Restructuring and Insolvency Section of the A Coruña Bar Association, explained that the initiative aims to offer women legal professionals in Galicia “a space to form a community, to give and receive mutual support, and to serve as role models for younger professionals.” She emphasized to the authorities and members present: “You, dear members, are both the purpose and the achievement of this initiative. We are here to make you visible and to be your channel.”

The launch included a roundtable discussion featuring Cayetana Lado Castro-Rial, General Counsel of the Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB), and María José Sánchez-Andrade Fernández, General Counsel of Agencia EFE, moderated by González Chas. The panel addressed the challenges of leadership for women executives in the legal sector.

With the opening of this chapter, Galicia becomes part of WLW’s growing network, founded in Madrid in 2018, which works to create an environment where women and men enjoy equal opportunities to thrive and achieve professional success, thereby strengthening a model of genuine equality.

The initiative in Galicia is supported by a strong group of committed sponsors, including Gadisa, Vegalsa, Estrella Galicia, ABANCA, Garrigues, EY, Grant Thornton, Caamaño Concheiro y Seoane, Maio Abogados, Ayan, GoBid, and the Provincial Bar Association of A Coruña.

WLW Galicia will launch a series of legal activities in the last quarter of the year, designed not only to build community and increase the visibility of female professionals in the sector but also to address pressing issues in law within a dynamic and fast-changing environment.
