Salvador González Announces Candidacy for CGAE Presidency
Salvador González, the Dean of the Málaga Bar Association, has officially announced his candidacy for the upcoming election for the Presidency of the General Council of Spanish Lawyers (CGAE), scheduled for June 28th.
González emphasizes his clear and ambitious goals for his candidacy. “My proposal as a candidate for the Presidency of Spanish Lawyers is based on working towards necessary renewal to face the new challenges of our profession. This includes utilizing more effective communication mechanisms to ensure our collective is recognized as a unified voice with common interests and demands,” he states.
He also highlights the importance of improving key areas such as the defense of lawyers’ interests, legal aid, training, innovation, and support for the management of bar associations. González’s proposal focuses on transparency, practices that strengthen trust among lawyers, collaboration for a fair system for alternative mutualists, and promoting a more open and accessible image of the General Council.
Salvador González brings over 25 years of dedicated experience in law and legal advisory. He has been the Dean of the Málaga Bar Association since 2020, specializing in Commercial and Corporate Law, and has advised national and multinational companies on compliance matters. He also serves as an associate professor of Commercial Law at the University of Málaga and teaches various master’s programs and expert courses at the University of Málaga and the International University of Andalusia. His notable contributions include founding and serving as an arbitrator for the Málaga Arbitration Tribunal and presiding over the Free Justice Commission of the Andalusian Council of Bar Associations.
The elected candidate will assume the presidency starting July 19th. Eligible candidates must be practicing lawyers certified by their respective Bar Association. Currently, there are three candidates: Salvador González, Carmen Pérez Andújar, former CGAE advisor, and Rafael Massieu, Dean of the Las Palmas Bar Association and President of the CGAE’s Innovation and Technological Development Commission.
During the plenary session on June 28th at the CGAE headquarters in Madrid, the 83 Deans of the Spanish Bar Associations will vote individually and secretly. The candidate who secures the majority of votes in the first or second round will be elected. If a third round is necessary, the voters will choose between the two candidates with the highest votes, and the candidate with the most votes in this round will be declared the winner. In the event of a tie, the candidate with the longest tenure will be elected.
