Sagardoy signs Luis Pérez Capitán at UGT
In a strategic move to bolster its labor law capabilities, Sagardoy Abogados has announced the appointment of Luis Pérez Capitán as of counsel. Pérez Capitán, who most recently served as Director of the Research Department at the UGT trade union, brings decades of experience across both public administration and private sector roles.
The new addition, described by the firm as a significant step forward in its growth strategy, will contribute his extensive expertise in labor rights and employment law. Since 2021, Pérez Capitán led UGT’s research service (SEC), after a distinguished career as Labor and Social Security Inspector and in senior HR roles.
In the private sector, he served as HR Director at Correos for seven years before joining Iberia as Corporate Director of Labor Relations, where he provided national and international legal counsel and was part of the airline’s executive committee.
In the public sphere, Pérez Capitán held high-level positions within Spain’s General State Administration, including Territorial Director and Head of the Labor and Social Security Inspection in Navarra.
His academic credentials are equally impressive: PhD in Law from the Public University of Navarra, level A tenured professor accreditation from ANECA, and over 30 years of teaching experience at prestigious institutions such as Universidad Carlos III, Pompeu Fabra, IE, and Esade.
An accomplished author, he has written over 50 publications and several monographs on key topics in labor law, including collective dismissals, corporate liability in workplace accidents, and the definition of employment relationships.
This high-profile hire follows Sagardoy Abogados’ recent strategic alliance with Ufenau Capital Partners, marking a new chapter of expansion and transformation for the firm under the leadership of Íñigo Sagardoy.
