New Claims Service for Car Cartel Victims in Spain
Starting in 2022, consumers affected by Spain’s notorious Car Cartel have begun to receive favorable court rulings, marking a crucial advancement in the fight against anti-competitive practices that have impacted countless vehicle buyers. The Malaga-based legaltech company, Cartel.es, estimates that approximately 9 million consumers in Spain have been affected. Despite the nearly €170 million fine imposed by the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC), Cartel.es stresses the importance of continuing to advocate for all impacted individuals.
Gonzalo G. de Diego, lawyer and Co-CEO of the company, notes, “The judicial system is working to uphold the rights of Spanish consumers. These positive rulings reflect the courts’ dedication to justice. While there is still a long way to go, the progress is promising.” Cartel.es has developed an innovative software that quickly identifies affected vehicles and automates claims, recently securing a €25 million investment from the British fund IQuote to help as many affected individuals as possible.
Operating under the motto “if we don’t win, you don’t pay,” the company provides a free service to check if purchased vehicles are eligible for compensation, ensuring consumers can claim what they are owed. This technological solution has become a vital tool in simplifying legal processes and supporting consumers in their quest for justice.
