Ramón y Cajal loses founders to Baker

Baker & McKenzie expands its Madrid practice with the lateral hire of nine partners, two of-counsel and more than 10 associates from Ramón y Cajal. These include Founding Partners Alberto Alonso Ureba and Francisco Bauzá Moré, as well as Partners Guillermo Guerra, Fernando Marroquín and Rafael Bazan.

The team will focus on corporate, M&A, capital markets and banking work, and has a strong track record in acting for listed Spanish corporations.
“The addition of this high-quality team to our Madrid office takes our Spanish corporate and finance offering to a new level,” says José Maria Alonso, Managing Partner of Baker & McKenzie´s Madrid office.
“It positions us well to serve the needs of our key Spanish and international clients on complex transactions.”
The loss of two of its founding members, and a substantial part of its corporate and finance teams, is a blow to Ramón y Cajal, and time will tell how it will affect their turnover and prospects for the year ahead.
