PRA launches copyright and media unit

PRA – Raposo, Sá Miranda & Associados has created a new economic unit to address the challenges facing digital content and copyright, driven by rapid technological change—particularly artificial intelligence. The Copyright and Media Economic Unit will provide legal and strategic advisory services across copyright and related rights, digital content, media, entertainment and the creative industries.

The new unit responds to the development of the creative economy, the digital transformation of the media sector and the increasing regulatory complexity associated with the economic exploitation of content, in its various formats, both in traditional and digital environments. It will be led by partner Gonçalo Gil Barreiros (pictured).

Aimed at supporting creators, artists, producers, publishers, digital platforms, media companies, advertising and creative agencies, technology start-ups and investors, the Copyright and Media Economic Unit will cover areas such as the protection and valorisation of copyright and related rights, licensing and rights negotiations, production and distribution agreements, digital content management, regulatory compliance, litigation and dispute resolution, as well as support in technological areas, namely cybercrime, artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital content regulation.

According to Gonçalo Gil Barreiros, who will coordinate the unit, “its creation reflects the firm’s commitment to keeping pace with the evolution of business models in the media and creative industries sectors, offering legal solutions that combine technical rigour, economic insight and in-depth market knowledge”.
