Pons IP launches quantum AI software patent unit
Pons IP has launched a new unit within its Patent Department focused exclusively on the protection of innovations in software, artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. The unit, headed by Pablo Estebaranz Ruiz, a European Patent Attorney (EPA) with over 18 years of experience, is designed to respond to the growing demand for specialised IP protection in these fast-evolving fields.
Unit structure and scope
The new unit forms part of the Patents, Technological Development and Innovation Department, directed by Ana Herrera. Together with the Technological Innovation Consulting Unit established in 2024, it brings together a multidisciplinary team of 40 professionals, including patent technicians, experts in IP rights management and protection strategy, intangible asset valuation, trade secrets specialists, lawyers advising on innovation, and monitoring and competitive intelligence professionals.
The unit’s core activities will cover the analysis of patentability of computer-implemented inventions (CII), artificial intelligence, quantum computing and advanced algorithms; the design of combined protection strategies using patents and trade secrets; the defence of rights before national and international offices; and the strategic management of industrial property portfolios aligned with technology-based business models.
The profile
Estebaranz brings a track record in protecting complex technological innovations involving software, AI, electronics, quantum computing and computer-implemented inventions, having advised national and international clients on drafting, filing and defending patents before the European Patent Office, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) and other international patent offices.
