Pinsent Masons guides CESCE in EIB’s Panama power deal
Pinsent Masons has advised Spanish export credit agency (CESCE) on structuring and negotiating key aspects of the guarantee for a financing agreement between the European Investment Bank (EIB) and Naturgy, aimed at upgrading Panama’s electricity distribution network. The transaction involves a US$300 million loan, of which US$260 million is guaranteed by CESCE, positioning this as one of the largest EIB loans in Central America to date.
The second EIB loan backed by CESCE, and the first of its kind supporting investment in Latin America.
This financing will contribute to the modernization and resilience of Panama’s power infrastructure, reinforcing the region’s energy transition and sustainable development goals.
