Pérez-Llorca appoints five new partners and one counsel

Pérez-Llorca announced today the promotion of five new partners from different practice areas: Rafael Fernández, Jorge Masía, José Ángel Nabal, Ana María Rodríguez and José Luis Romeu. And the appointment of Daniel Olábarri as counsel to the tax department.

Rafael Fernández

Rafael Fernández, new partner of the Insurance and Reinsurance practice, joined Pérez-Llorca as counsel in 2020. He has more than 13 years of experience in the insurance sector, in which he has advised national and international insurance and reinsurance companies and other entities related to this sector in different commercial transactions, regulatory issues, as well as in dispute resolution. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Fernández was Vice President of legal affairs for a major reinsurer in Luxembourg and worked at two prestigious international law firms. He currently holds the position of Senior Vice Chair in the Insurance Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Young Insurance Professionals (AJPS).

Jorge Masía

Jorge Masía, who also joined Pérez-Llorca as counsel to the Competition team in 2020, has a hybrid profile between economics and law. With more than 18 years of experience advising national and multinational companies in complex litigation matters, he has extensive knowledge of different business sectors such as energy, finance, new technologies and telecommunications. Mr. Masía holds degrees in Law, Business Administration and Management, Economics and Political Science and Administration, and has, among other postgraduate degrees, an LL.M. from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago and another LL.M. from IE, being in both cases number one in his class.

José Ángel Nabal

José Ángel Nabal joined Pérez-Llorca in 2014 where he has spent almost his entire professional career. In 2018 he completed an LL.M. at Columbia University (New York), after which he worked as an international associate in the New York office of Simpson Thacher and subsequently rejoined the firm’s Madrid office. Nabal specializes in advising investment funds and national and international companies in complex transactions, both real estate and commercial with a real estate component, such as joint ventures, investment agreements, real estate development or acquisitions and divestitures.

Ana María Rodríguez

Ana María Rodríguez has developed her entire professional career in the Public area of Pérez-Llorca, where she joined in 2012. An expert in Litigation and European Union Law, she advises both public and private entities on regulatory and civil matters before Spanish and European courts, as well as before European bodies such as the European Commission or the ECB.

José Luis Romeu

José Luis Romeu joined Pérez-Llorca in 2017 as a lawyer in the Corporate practice. Specializing in Corporate Law, his career has a strong international flavour as, in addition to holding an LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University, in 2019 and 2020 he was working in the Firm’s London office and is also Solicitor of England and Wales. Since joining the firm, he has advised domestic and foreign clients on all types of commercial transactions and, in particular, on major M&A and private equity transactions, creation and dissolution of joint ventures and restructurings.

Daniel Olábarri

Pérez-Llorca has also appointed Daniel Olábarri as counsel in the Tax area. The lawyer has developed his entire professional career in the firm, which he joined in 2012. Olábarri specializes in tax litigation, having participated in numerous appeals and claims before the contentious-administrative courts (High Courts of Justice, National High Court and Supreme Court) and the economic-administrative courts, as well as in management, inspection, collection and sanctioning proceedings against the state, regional and local tax authorities.
