Pares strengthens litigation and arbitration team
Pares Advogados has announced the strengthening of its litigation and arbitration team with the addition of Alexandre Marques de Carvalho, who joins from Jardim, Sampaio e Associados, and Mariana Brandão Rodrigues, who joins from SRS Legal. Both lawyers (pictured) join the firm as associates.
According to João de Freitas e Costa, managing partner of the firm: “The integration of Alexandre and Mariana comes at a time of significant growth in workload in an area that has seen a substantial increase in demand in recent years. The litigation and arbitration area is central to our firm’s strategy. In this regard, we will continue to invest in its growth whenever justified.”
Alexandre Marques de Carvalho has developed his practice over the past 10 years at Jardim, Sampaio e Associados, initially as a trainee and later as a lawyer. In recent years, he has focused mainly on civil litigation matters, especially liability claims—both contractual and non-contractual—as well as providing advice in criminal and administrative offence law. Carvalho holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and a master’s degree in Business Law (specialising in Labour Law) from ISCTE.
Mariana Brandão Rodrigues worked at SRS Legal for the past two years, mainly in criminal law, administrative offence law, civil law, and litigation. Between 2020 and 2023, she collaborated with the office of Ricardo Sá Fernandes. Rodrigues holds a law degree from the Faculty of Law of the Portuguese Catholic University. She also holds an LLM in Forensics, Criminology and Law from Maastricht University Faculty of Law (curricular part) and a postgraduate course in Compliance for Corruption Prevention from the Faculty of Law of the Nova University of Lisbon.
Pares’ litigation and arbitration area is led by partners Sandra Severino and Pedro Carreira Albano, and by associate coordinator Ricardo Dionísio Mota. The team currently comprises 17 lawyers.
