Pablo Doñate returns to Martínez-Echevarría to co-lead Litigation and Arbitration

Martínez-Echevarría strengthens its litigation and arbitration practice with the return of Pablo Doñate, who rejoins the firm from Jones Day, where he served as partner in the international disputes department.

In his new role, Doñate will join the firm’s management committee and co-lead the litigation and arbitration department alongside Carlos Gutiérrez, a recent addition to the firm and former global head of litigation at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy.

With more than 20 years of experience, Doñate has advised on complex judicial and arbitration matters—both domestic and international. His expertise spans a wide range of industries, including infrastructure, construction, energy, insurance, financial services, tourism, and retail. He is particularly seasoned in corporate and post-M&A disputes, board liability cases, and extraordinary appeals before the Spanish Supreme Court.

Additionally, Doñate specializes in business-related criminal litigation, including cases handled before Spain’s National Court (Audiencia Nacional).

His professional background includes serving as head of litigation and arbitration at Andersen in Madrid and previous roles at top-tier firms such as Cuatrecasas, Ashurst, and Clifford Chance.

Doñate holds a dual degree in Law and Business Administration from Universidad Pontificia de Comillas (ICADE) and a Master’s in Business Legal Advice from IE Law School. He has taught procedural law at IE for over 15 years as an adjunct professor and has also lectured at Universidad Europea and in the Master of Access to the Legal Profession at ICADE.

This high-profile return marks a significant boost to Martínez-Echevarría’s litigation capabilities as the firm continues to consolidate its position in the Spanish legal market.
