Ontier Perú hires Emil Ruppert as partner

Ontier has added Emil Ruppert as partner in its Peru office, joining the corporate, M&A and mining practice. The move strengthens the firm’s ability to advise local and international clients on complex corporate transactions and on infrastructure and mining projects, two sectors considered drivers of the Peruvian economy.

Emil Ruppert brings close to 40 years of experience leading and structuring mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, concessions and project finance transactions linked to the infrastructure and mining sectors. His practice has focused on corporate, contract and mining law, and international legal directories have recognized his work in corporate and financing matters.

Before joining Ontier, Ruppert spent many years as partner in the M&A, corporate and contract, and mining areas of Rubio Leguía Normand, a firm active in the Peruvian market. He was part of the committee that drafted Peru’s General Corporations Law and has taught Commercial Law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and Corporate Law at the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas. He is a lawyer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and completed his training at Georgetown University Law School and the University of Houston Law Center.

Strategic fit for Ontier Perú

Ruppert’s arrival adds to recent growth at Ontier Perú in areas closely linked to transactional activity, such as Finance and Regulatory. The Corporate, M&A and Mining area will work in coordination with the rest of the Lima office’s practices and with other offices across the firm, assisting clients in structuring investments and operations into, from and within Peru, states Ontier.

The hire is a step in Ontier’s strategy to strengthen its capabilities in key markets with professionals who combine deep local knowledge with an established track record. Peru is described as a strategic market for the firm’s network, and Ruppert’s experience in corporate operations, infrastructure and mining — sectors that attract international investment — is expected to allow the firm to support clients investing and operating into, from and within the country with a more coordinated response across offices, according to Javier Muñoz, international director of Ontier.

Enrique Dupuy, managing partner of Ontier Perú, described Ruppert as a reference figure in Peruvian corporate law, noting that few lawyers can say they took part in drafting the General Corporations Law while also leading mining and infrastructure transactions for decades. He added that the incorporation strengthens the firm’s transactional practice and creates immediate synergies with the areas reinforced this year, placing the office in a position to support clients on major deals in the country.

Firm growth

With this appointment, Ontier has added seven new partners over the past year across offices in Latin America, Spain and the Middle East, as part of its international growth strategy. Ontier is a firm focused on business law, present in Europe with offices in Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy, and in Latin America with offices in Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Venezuela.
