Nuno Cabeçadas takes over as managing partner at Miranda

Miranda has announced the appointment of Nuno Cabeçadas as its new managing partner, succeeding Diogo Xavier da Cunha, who will now serve as senior partner and chairman of the board. This leadership transition is part of a broader restructuring of Miranda’s governance model, aimed at strengthening the link between strategic and operational management, according to the Portuguese law firm.

The newly created Executive Committee, which includes the managing partner as well as partners Nuno Gouveia and Sofia Martins, will be responsible for the firm’s day-to-day management and for implementing its strategic guidelines and action plans. These three partners also sit on the board of directors, thereby ensuring a direct connection between executive management and the firm’s strategic goals. The board, chaired by Diogo Xavier da Cunha, also includes Catarina Távora and Ricardo Alves Silva as non-executive directors.

About Nuno Cabeçadas

Nuno Cabeçadas holds a law degree from the University of Coimbra and an MBA from the Lisbon School of Economics and Management (ISEG). He has been with Miranda for 23 years, having started his career at the firm as a trainee. From 2004 to 2010, he was seconded to the Miranda Alliance’s associated office in Maputo, where he built strong international experience. A partner since 2013 and a member of the Board since 2021, he has focused his practice on banking and finance law and project finance, advising on some of the most significant projects and transactions in the markets where Miranda operates.

“It is a great honour and responsibility to take on this role at a time when the legal profession is undergoing profound changes and innovation – both inside and outside the legal world – is moving at an unprecedented pace. This context presents a particular challenge for a firm with Miranda’s international identity and focus, and demands that we adapt, evolve, and continue to assert the value proposition that sets us apart in the markets where we operate”, said Nuno Cabeçadas.

Diogo Xavier da Cunha served as managing partner for the past 10 years, a tenure marked by solid and unifying leadership that consolidated Miranda’s position in the market, expanded its international presence, and strengthened its internal culture, according to the law firm.

“Miranda’s culture is rooted in meritocracy, which is closely linked to the increasing assumption of management responsibilities at various levels of the firm. It is especially up to the more senior partners to foster and ensure a cross-generational renewal in the management of the organisation. That’s why I am particularly pleased and proud to see a new generation of partners take on the enormous responsibility of steering an international organisation that today brings together over 250 people across four continents. The new executive team will continue to have my full support”, says Cunha.

These appointments are part of a broader institutional strengthening movement within Miranda, which also includes the creation of an Ethics and Risk Committee, chaired by partner Ana Pinelas Pinto and also composed of partners Luís Borges Rodrigues and Lília Tomé de Azevedo.
