New player: EY Law debuts in Portugal

EY Law Portugal, an independent law firm within the EY network, has entered the Portuguese market, further expanding EY’s global presence in Europe. The EY Global Law network operates in over 90 countries with more than 3,400 lawyers and is part of EY, a broader organization with a presence in over 150 countries. In Portugal, EY Law focuses exclusively on legal services, which are “enhanced by EY’s capabilities in areas such as Consulting, Strategy, Transactions, and Tax, both nationally and internationally”, the organization states.

The new Portuguese office aims to provide integrated legal solutions in areas such as M&A, Real Estate and Urban Planning, Asset Management, Private Equity, Financial, Banking and Insurance, Tax Litigation, Labor/Social Security, Data Protection, Energy, and Infrastructure, combining local expertise with the global resources of EY Global Law. “It represents the culmination of an evolution process, adapting to the demands of the global legal market”, states the firm in a press release.

“EY Law Portugal stems from a well-defined and mature strategic vision. Our commitment to the independence of the legal profession and to operational and functional segregation is fundamental to ensure compliance with ethical rules and the autonomy required by the profession. This approach guarantees that clients’ interests are always rigorously, confidentially, and impartially defended”, states João Ricardo Nóbrega, managing partner of EY Law.

According to Nóbrega, the firm works with clients facing issues such as corporate restructurings, national or cross-border transactions, labor issues, tax disputes, and matters in sectors such as finance, insurance, technology, real estate, energy, and industry.

Miguel Farinha, country managing partner of EY Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, and Cape Verde, emphasizes that EY’s broader network allows for the sharing of experiences and access to real-time knowledge bases. “Ey Law Portugal reinforces its commitment to EY’s global mission of ‘Building a Better Working World,’ offering services that not only solve problems but create lasting value”, says Farinha.
