Mutualidad Appoints New Vice President and Secretary General
The Board of Mutualidad, a non-profit insurance entity providing comprehensive solutions in forecasting, savings, and investments, has announced the appointment of José María Alonso Puig as the new Vice President and Victoria Ortega Benito as the new Secretary General.
José María Alonso Puig, a distinguished civil and commercial litigation specialist, takes on the role of Vice President following the conclusion of Juan Bassas Mariné’s term. Alonso, a law graduate from the Complutense University of Madrid, has extensive experience in legal matters involving contracts, corporate disputes, financial operations, and insurance. His career includes roles as Director of Legal Affairs at Gavial S.A., managing partner at J&A Garrigues, partner and chairman at Baker & McKenzie, and Dean of the Illustrious Bar Association of Madrid from 2018 to 2023. He currently serves as managing partner at Alonso Díez-Hochleitner Abogados, President of the International Arbitration Center of Madrid (CIAM-CIAR), and has been a board member of Mutualidad since 2019.
Victoria Ortega Benito steps into the role of Secretary General, succeeding Antonio Albanés, who has held the position since 2014. Ortega, a member of Mutualidad’s Board since 2007, has been a practicing lawyer since 1981 and holds a Doctorate in Law from the University of Valladolid. Her notable roles include Dean of the Cantabria Bar Association from 2000 to 2008, various positions within the General Council of the Spanish Bar Association since 2002, and President of the institution from 2016 until July 2024. She has also served as President of Unión Profesional, Vice President of the European Council of the Liberal Professions, Vice President of the World Organization of Liberal Professions, and a permanent member of the Council of State.
Enrique Sanz Fernández-Lomana, President of Mutualidad, praised the contributions of Juan Bassas and Antonio Albanés during their tenure and extended his congratulations to the new appointees. He emphasized, “I am confident that the leadership and professionalism of José María and Victoria will be crucial in addressing future challenges and successfully executing our strategic plan 23/27.”
