Miranda reinforces European and Competition area

Miranda & Associados has reinforced its team of partners with the hiring of Miguel Marques de Carvalho, who will join the Lisbon office.

Miguel Marques de Carvalho will be the partner responsible for Miranda’s new European and Competition Law Specialist practice. The lawyer has more than 15 years of experience in the field of European and Competition Law, joining from Cruz Vilaça & Associados and having spent most of his career at PLMJ. He has provided regular assistance to market-leading companies in various economic sectors, with emphasis on the financial, electronic communications and media, transport and consumer goods sectors, in the domestic and international market. In the last fifteen years, he has intervened in several of the most relevant competition law cases that have taken place in Portugal.

Marques de Carvalho holds a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra and an LL.M in Competition Law from King’s College London. He has participated as a speaker at several conferences and seminars, with interventions on topics of Competition law and European Union law, and he is also the author of several publications on these topics.

According to Diogo Xavier da Cunha, managing partner at Miranda: “The reinforcement of the Competition area, with the creation of the new Centre for Specialised Practice in European and Competition Law and the hiring of Miguel, corresponds to a strategic objective defined by the partners for some time now.” He also states that: “It is with pleasure and enthusiasm that we welcome a partner and a lawyer with the vast professional experience, technical and human qualities. Miguel is motivated to embrace the challenge and will certainly contribute in a relevant way, not only to the expansion of our practice in this area in the relevant jurisdictions, but also for the reinforcement of the quality of the services we provide to our clients. Miguel fits perfectly into the strategic objective that has been defined for some time, and will be a huge help at a time when client requests in this area in many of our jurisdictions, continue to grow. As a consolidated and “mature” area in Portugal, in other markets we are still at an early stage, and the challenges are many and complex.”

With this hiring, Miranda & Associados now has 33 partners.
