pjimage 2022 03 08T130949.384Miranda has continued the trend by a number of law firms in Spain and Portugal, by creating a practice dedicated to ESG matters. The team is currently composed of 11 lawyers with different skills in different areas of practice, including environmental, corporate, banking and financial law. They are: Susana Pinto Coelho, partner and responsible for the ESGimpact+ Team at Miranda, Archa Dutta, Catarina Santinha, Filipa Morais de Almeida, Hortência Machiana, José Diogo Sampaio, Luísa Moreira, Nuria Brinkmann, Suheil Salem, Reinaldo Ferreira and Vasco Grilate Ferreira.

The team members are distributed between Lisbon, Luanda, Maputo and Libreville and will have complementary action fronts. They will centralise the provision of services in ESG and impact matters in all 16 jurisdictions of the Miranda Alliance network and they will monitor, together with the Corporate Social Responsibility and Compliance teams, the implementation of the internal ESG strategy at Miranda and thoughout the Miranda Alliance network.

According to Susana Pinto Coelho, partner and manager of Miranda’s ESGimpact+ Team, “ESG concerns have been, for several years, at the base of an increasing number of business and investment decisions.”

She added: “Today, sustainability, social issues and governance are no longer just media-appealing topics, having become critical aspects of customers’ decision-making process, consumer choices and public policies. Taking a position, reacting and, as far as possible, intervening are first and foremost ethical and moral imperatives, but today they are also obligations under the ESG criteria and for risk mitigation, under penalty of heavy financial sanctions and, perhaps more importantly, reputations.”
