Miguel Pereira Coutinho joins Pragma as partner

Pragma Advogados has announced the appointment of Miguel Pereira Coutinho as a new partner, taking responsibility for the areas of criminal law, regulatory offences, compliance and internal investigations. Pereira Coutinho transits from MFA Legal, where he was a senior counsel, leading the compliance and internal investigations practice. Before that, he also had two decades of experience at Cuatrecasas.

With more than 20 years of legal practice, Pereira Coutinho brings experience in criminal law, corporate defence and complex litigation. His track record in advising companies, financial institutions and individuals on criminal proceedings, internal investigations, sanctioning procedures and the prevention of economic and financial crime is regarded by Pragma as an asset.

He has also provided broad legal support in the implementation and consolidation of compliance programmes, with a focus on criminal risk prevention, the drafting of internal policies and procedures, the development of training plans and the implementation of whistleblowing channels, states the law firm.

Experience in litigation

As a litigator, Pereira Coutinho has participated in high-profile criminal cases such as the “Cardinal Case”, “Operation Labyrinth”, the BPP case, the invasion of the Alcochete training ground, and others. His practice also extends to regulatory litigation, with significant involvement in proceedings before the Competition Authority, the Bank of Portugal, CMVM, ASAE, ANAC and ANACOM.

“The arrival of Miguel Pereira Coutinho marks a significant milestone in the consolidation of Pragma Advogados as a leading firm in criminal law and in providing legal support to companies and organisations subject to demanding compliance obligations and institutional integrity standards”, states the law firm.
