Massano triumphs in Portuguese Bar Association elections

João Massano, president of the Lisbon Regional Council, has been elected the new president of the Portuguese Bar Association for the 2025/2027 term. Massano won the election with 54.58% of the votes, defeating the current officeholder, Fernanda Pinheiro, after a fierce and controversial race. Out of the 17,482 votes cast in this second round of the election, João Massano secured 9,541 votes, while the current president received 7,941 votes.

Massano currently works in solo practice with his own office, specializing in commercial law and labor law. His team includes vice-presidents Manuel Protásio (Vieira de Almeida), Paula Ponces Camanho (Morais Leitão), Filipe Pimenta (José Pimenta e Associados), former deputy Carlos Peixoto, and Maria Eduarda Proença de Carvalho (Proença de Carvalho), along with secretary board member Judith Minas (individual practice), among others.

“It is an honor for me and for the team that accompanied me in this candidacy to be your choice for the next president of all lawyers. Because that’s what I will be. A transparent leadership, one that does not close itself off in Lisbon, in its ivory tower, and does not ignore the colleagues who work every day, in all parts of the country, and who want to implement new ideas and new energy for our profession”, Massano stated.
