Martínez-Almeida opens the International Summit ICAM 2025: Iberoamerica

The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, will officially open this Thursday the International Summit ICAM 2025: Ibero-America, organised by the Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) from 5 to 6 June at Casa de América to address the main legal, institutional and economic challenges facing the region.

Opening

The inauguration will take place at 9:00 a.m. and will also include a speech by the President-elect of Venezuela, Edmundo González, as well as the Dean of ICAM, Eugenio Ribón, and the Director of Programming at Casa de América, Moisés Morera.

The session will continue with the inaugural plenary session Ibero-America on the global agenda: from the Ibero-American Summits to COP30, with the participation of Carmen Fernández Torres, Ambassador at Large for the Ibero-American Summits and the Ibero-American Space; Enrique Gil Botero, Secretary General of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of the Ibero-American Countries (COMJIB); and Lorenzo Cotino, President of the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

Until Friday, the meeting will bring together more than 50 specialists from Europe and Latin America. Former ministers, senior officials from European institutions, business leaders, diplomats, presidents of bar associations, academics and representatives of civil society will discuss infrastructure, public-private cooperation, digital governance, trade, artificial intelligence, energy transition and the strengthening of the rule of law in the region, among other issues.

The Director General of the European Commission’s Legal Service, Daniel Calleja, and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs and current Ambassador to Hungary, Alfonso Dastis, are part of the academic programme together with prominent representatives of the European Parliament, SEGIB, UNHCR, CEOE and the Elcano Royal Institute, as well as partners from law firms and executives from firms with a consolidated presence in the Ibero-American space.

Closing Session

María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, former president of the United Nations General Assembly and Executive Director of GWL Voices, will give the closing keynote address on Friday 6 June at 13:15. Afterwards, the Dean of ICAM, Eugenio Ribón, will moderate the plenary session Iberoamerica in action: commitments for a shared future, with the participation of Teresa Mínguez, Head of International Relations; Alfonso Dastis; Carlos Malamud, senior researcher at the Real Instituto Elcano; Luis Martí Mingarro, former Dean of ICAM and former President of UIBA; and Eduardo Ferrer, Judge of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
