María Sanz joins ECIJA’s Barcelona to promote M&A

ECIJA continues to advance its ambitious national and international growth strategy with a new high-profile addition to its Barcelona office. The firm has announced the appointment of María Sanz as a partner, reinforcing its commercial law and insolvency practice in the Catalan capital.

With over 15 years of experience, Sanz specializes in bankruptcy and insolvency law, particularly in second chance proceedings and creditor arrangements. She has acted both as counsel and as court-appointed insolvency administrator, offering strategic and cross-disciplinary legal advice in complex financial distress scenarios.

María Sanz holds a Law degree from the University of Barcelona and postgraduate qualifications in international law and advocacy from ISDE, as well as in insolvency law from the Barcelona Bar Association. Her practice includes advising creditors in insolvency proceedings, providing deep insight into creditor rights and negotiation strategies.

Throughout her career, Sanz has been part of prominent law firms such as Crowe, AGM Abogados, Think It Legal, and Lugar Abogados y Asociados. In addition to her legal practice, she has held teaching roles at various academic institutions, including Pompeu Fabra University’s legal clinic, the Center for Financial Studies (CEF), and ISDE, where she has lectured on insolvency law.

Her arrival marks ECIJA’s fourth partner hire in the last quarter, underlining the firm’s ongoing investment in key practice areas and its commitment to building out its presence in major Spanish legal markets.
