María Dolores de Cospedal launches IC Abogados

Former Minister of Defense María Dolores de Cospedal has announced the launch of IC Abogados, a new legal practice based in Madrid’s Calle de Villanueva, bringing together a distinguished team of jurists to provide expert legal counsel in highly complex matters.

The founding team of IC Abogados includes de Cospedal, State Attorney and former partner at CMS Suárez de Lezo, alongside Javier Herrero, Alberto López de Mata, Juan Francisco Mestre, Sofía Mestre, and José Manuel Rey. Joining them as key figures are also Manuel María Zorrilla Suárez, State Attorney and economist with expertise in civil, commercial, and administrative law, as well as arbitration and mediation, and Juan Francisco Mestre Delgado, professor of administrative law at the University of Alcalá and practicing attorney since 1985.

Under the motto “Effective, agile, and technically impeccable solutions,” IC Abogados positions itself as a boutique firm focused on legal excellence and deep client engagement. The firm differentiates itself by not adopting the standard professional partnership model, instead offering personalized legal services that accompany clients from first consultation to case resolution.

The team brings extensive experience in managing high-stakes legal issues, including advising on public tenders and concessions in regulated industries, filing appeals before the Supreme Court, litigating cases of governmental liability for damages, representing clients in complex urban development disputes, and preparing legal reports for both public and private institutions.

Cospedal’s move comes after her tenure at CMS Suárez de Lezo, where she led a multidisciplinary team of 27 lawyers working across civil, commercial, insolvency, criminal, economic, and administrative litigation, including high-profile banking disputes.
