Leya raises $25 million in Series A funding round to scale legal work with AI

Just two months after its last investment round, Leya has raised $25 million (€22.7 million) in a Series A funding round aimed at accelerating legal work with AI. The round was led by Redpoint Ventures, with participation from existing investors Benchmark, Y Combinator and Wayfinder Ventures, and the new addition of Alt Capital.

Law firms

Pérez-Llorca was the first Spanish law firm to integrate this Swedish tool in February 2024. Later it was also integrated by Spanish firm Araoz & Rueda, and in early July, it made public its entry into the UK, with Bird&Bird and its partnership with legal data provider FromCounsel. This adds to other key partnerships already established on the European continent.

Freeing from manual and repetitive tasks

Leya was founded on the belief that lawyers should be freed from manual and repetitive tasks to focus on strategic and impactful work. Leveraging cutting-edge AI, Leya makes lawyers more productive and delivers higher quality results. This mission has propelled the company from its beginnings in a student dormitory, through initial explorations of BERT models for Swedish legal sources, to its current status as a leader in legal technology innovation.

“Our journey has been driven by a relentless obsession with improving legal productivity,” said Max Junestrand, co-founder of Leya. “From our early days at Mannheimer Swartling to our travels to San Francisco, we have been driven by the vision of a more delightful, AI-powered way of working in the legal field. This funding will allow us to accelerate even faster, coming on the back of our previous round just two months ago.”

“Leya’s platform integrates seamlessly with law firm documents, playbooks, templates and external legal sources. It assists attorneys with specific review, search and drafting tasks, such as populating transaction checklists, creating key term reports and drafting memos, to name a few. By providing intelligent assistance, Leya enables legal professionals to manage legal work quickly and efficiently,” they shared in a statement.
