LEGALCOMMUNITY WEEK 2024: DAY 2

From 10 to 16 June, the eighth edition of Legalcommunity Week, an event dedicated to the Italian and international legal community, will take place in Milan. This year, there will be more than twenty opportunities for discussion hosted by the Hotel Principe di Savoia, in Piazza della Repubblica. These will include conferences, round tables and keynote speeches on topics of interest to lawyers and the business world.

Furthermore, Legalcommunity Week also provides opportunities for leisure and social interaction. Institutional events will be accompanied by receptions, sporting activities and a musical competition featuring bands comprising lawyers and other members of the business community. The Legalcommunity Corporate Awards, a gala evening dedicated to the most outstanding business lawyers and law firms of the year, will also be held.

DAY TWO – 11 JUNE 2024

The second day (link to day 1) of Legalcommunity Week 2024 commenced at 8 a.m. in Piazza Belgioioso, the headquarters of the Gianni & Origoni (Gop) law firm, which hosted the now customary Breakfast on Finance. The protagonists of this edition were Gop’s founding partner Francesco Gianni and Nextalia SGR’s CEO Francesco Canzonieri, with Financecommunity journalist Eleonora Fraschini moderating the dialogue.

Next, the focus returned to the Principe di Savoia Hotel, with a conference dedicated to the 2024 tax reform and its impacts on corporate groups and wealth managers. Introduced by speeches from Guglielmo Maisto, senior partner of Maisto and Associates, and Marco Osnato, chairman of the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, the conference was divided into two sessions.

The first (focusing on the corporate world and cooperative tax compliance) began with a dialogue between Alessandro Bucchieri, head of tax affairs of Enel Group Italy, and Francesco Nardacchione, tax director of Bolton Group; and continued with a panel discussion moderated by Nicola Di Molfetta, editor-in-chief of Legalcommunity and MAG, and enlivened by speeches by Luana Foffo Ciucci, tax group director of Procter & Gamble; Nicoletta Savini, group head of tax at Tim; Gian Luca Tagliavini, tax vice president of Barilla Group; and Marco Valdonio, partner at Maisto and Associates.

After a coffee break, the second session (devoted more specifically to the world of wealth management) was introduced by Antonino La Lumia, president of the Milan Bar Association. Two dialogues offered: the one between Stefania Pedroni, head of wealth planning at Intesa Sanpaolo Private Banking, and Manuela Soncini, head of wealth advisory at Unicredit Wealth Management and Private Banking; and the one between Francesco Centonze, professor of criminal law at Cattolica University and founder of the law firm Centonze Associates; and Giuseppe Melis, professor of tax law at Luiss Guido Carli University; moderated by Marco Cerrato, partner at Maisto and Associates.

Partially concurrently, from 11 a.m., there was also a dialogue on negotiation strategies. Moderated by Mercedes Galan, a journalist at Iberian Lawyer, it featured Fatima Correia da Silva, chief compliance officer, general counsel and dpo of Critical Techworks; Giuseppe De Palo, founder and president of Dialogue Through Conflict Foundation and arbitrator and mediator of Jams; Eric Eck, principal & founder of Guirbaden; Christof Höfner, senior legal counsel of Zurich Insurance Company; and John Rigau, vice president and general counsel of Pepsico West Europe.

The afternoon was particularly rich, with no less than five opportunities for discussion that kept the Week’s guests engaged.

Financecommunity’s Eleonora Fraschini moderated a panel on the state of the private equity industry in Italy with several industry figures: Ignazio Castiglioni, co-founder and ceo of Hat sgr; Matteo Cirla, partner & managing director of Igi Private Equiy; Massimo Di Terlizzi, co-managing partner of Pirola Pennuto Zei & associati; Isabel Fernandes, general legal counsel of Grupo Visabeira; Ludovico Mantovani, founding partner of Pirola Corpporate Finance; and Walter Ricciotti, ceo and co-founder of Quadrivio Group.

Instead, cybercrime was the focus of a panel discussion introduced by a keynote speech by Carlo Altomonte, associate dean and director of the Pnrr lab at Sda Bocconi. Moderated by Andrea Puccio, founding partner of Puccio penalisti associati, the discussion brought together speeches by Andressa Back, legal and corporate affairs director Italy at Metinvest Group; Matteo Francesco Feraboli, group senior director cybersecurity and anti-fraud global defense center at Intesa Sanpaolo; and Eugenio Fusco, prosecutor at the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office; Marzia Francisci, general counsel at the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy; Luis Graca Rodrigues, regional head of legal department Europe Lusophone Africa & Philippines at Minsait (Indra); Luca Nilo Livrieri, director sales engineering Southern Europe at Crowdstrike; and Alessandro Piva, director of the cybersecurity & data protection observatory at the Politecnico di Milano.

At 4 p.m., there was an attempt to make some predictions about what we should expect on the AI front in the coming months, in the panel discussion moderated by Luca Arnaboldi, managing partner of Carnelutti Law Firm, and consisting of Corrado Passera; Giovanna Dossena; Alessandro Profumo; Carlo Mammola; and Barbara Cominelli.

Partially concurrently, Marco De Bernardin, managing director and head of Italy forensic investigations and intelligence at Kroll, explained in an ad hoc keynote speech what are the strategies to move in times of uncertainty such as the current ones.

To close the day, AI was discussed again, this time with reference to the possible implications for firms and legal departments, in a panel discussion consisting of Stefania Cane, chief people and legal officer of Mv Augusta; Federico Dal Poz, chief legal officer of Amplifon Group; Mohamed Elmogy, general counsel of Siemens Energy Uae and president of Acc Mena; and Marta Simoni, legal counsel of Google Italy. Moderating the discussion were Marco Berliri, partner at Hogan Lovells, and Lodovico Bianchi di Giulio, group general counsel at Bip.

At the end of the daily institutional program, Legalcommunity Week guests were able to indulge in a cocktail party dedicated to women leadership in the in-house market, at the offices of the Baker Mckenzie firm; and attend the Midsummer Night’s Dream Party organized by the Orsingher Ortu firm at the Pavilion of Contemporary Art (Pac) on Via Palestro.
