Rock & Law Madrid kicks off
Bringing together lawyers, charity, and a lot of rock—that’s the concept of the Rock & Law festival, the main music and solidarity event organized by the legal sector in Portugal and Spain since 2009. In Madrid, its 2024 edition will take place tomorrow, October 11, at the Caja Mágica, starting at 7:00 p.m., featuring nine bands made up of legal professionals, with all funds raised going to the Próximos a la infancia, a project by the Próximo Prójimo Foundation. It is the last chance to support the cause and enjoy the concert: tickets are still available.
The goal of the funds raised at Rock & Law in Madrid is to support the Prójimo Próximo Foundation, an organization founded in 2001 whose mission is to improve the quality of life for people with physical (over 33%), intellectual, and/or sensory disabilities who lack the financial resources to meet their needs. The ‘Próximos a la infancia’ project focuses on helping children and adolescents.
The idea came up in 2009, when several law firms in Lisbon decided to organise a charity concert featuring bands formed by members of each firm, with a solidarity-focused goal. This initiative turned out to be a success and has been held annually in the Portuguese capital ever since. In 2010, the idea was brought to Spain, with the first edition of the concert taking place in Madrid, involving major national and international law firms. Due to the success achieved, the initiative has been repeated ever since.
Talent beneath the robes
“Rock&Law is a charitable project with its own identity. Many of us lawyers have been involved for years, and we have a special fondness for it because of what it represents. Behind it is a collective effort, carried out by many people from different firms, driven by the excitement of contributing to a good cause while also putting on an unforgettable show. Unforgettable, and high-quality, because there’s a lot of talent hidden beneath the robes”, says Javier Calle from the Cuatrecasas band.
For Gorka Atutxa, drummer from Uría Menéndez, the project is also unique in its charitable mission. “It’s a magnificent initiative, primarily because it helps raise funds for charitable projects related to children, and that is what drives all of us to participate. I don’t know of any other sector where all the competing firms come together for a charitable cause and, on top of that, do it together in a music festival”, he says.
In addition to enjoying multiple concerts, the festival will feature food and drink zones. Nine bands, made up of professionals from the Spanish legal sector, will perform:
- The members of the Bar (Baker McKenzie, DLA Piper, A&O Shearman, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, and Watson Farley & Williams)
- Counselors of Music & Soul (CMS)
- The Rocking Houses (Cuatrecasas)
- The Loitte Band (Deloitte Legal)
- Perry Meyson (EY)
- Mind the GA_P (Gómez-Acebo & Pombo)
- Punto G (Garrigues)
- Cambio de Control (Lesayra)
- Tipos de Interés (Uría Menéndez)
