KPMG Lawyers doubles its headcount in Spain to 1000 employees
KPMG Abogados, the legal and tax division of the Big Four firm, has crossed the 1,000-employee threshold in Spain, doubling its workforce over the last decade. With this milestone, the firm now ranks among the top five legal employers in the country.
Over the past year alone, KPMG Abogados has hired 293 new professionals, 63% of whom are women. Among the notable additions are Mar Barreno, partner in the transfer pricing and international taxation team; Fernando Martínez Comas, managing partner of the Balearic Islands office; Leovigildo Domene, partner in the financial services legal department; and Eva Hernando and José Ramón Cuervo, who now co-lead the legal and tax practice in Galicia. In Catalonia, Toni de Weest Prat joined as partner in corporate tax.
KPMG Abogados has also expanded through the integration of two regional law firms: RL Abogados, based in Andalusia and led by Jorge León Gross, and Núñez González & Rodríguez Abogados in the Canary Islands, which brings a team of 19 professionals under partners Enrique Núñez and Jaime Sanz.
Managing partner Alberto Estrelles (pictured) expressed pride in the firm’s growth, highlighting that “49% of management positions are held by women.” He also emphasized the firm’s commitment to innovation, noting that 10% of its annual revenue is reinvested in technology, R&D, and innovation initiatives.
The firm has advised on several high-profile transactions in the past year, including the sales of Idealista, Dorna, and Universidad Europea. The total value of deals handled by the firm’s professionals in 2024 exceeded €17 billion.
