Jones Day names new partner-in-charge in Mexico

Jones Day announced that Manuel Romano has been named partner-in-charge of its Mexico City office.

Romano succeeds Fernando de Ovando, who has led the office since it was launched in 2009 and will remain active as a partner in the firm’s banking and finance practice.

“Manuel has been a Partner since we opened in Mexico and he has been instrumental to our growth in the country, ” said Luis Riesgo, partner-in-charge of Jones Day’s Latin America/Miami Region and its São Paulo office. “With more than 30 years of experience leading major cross-border transactions, we look forward to his leadership driving our continued growth and position among the leading global law firms in Mexico.”

Throughout his career, Romano has worked on some of the most important M&A deals in Latin America, including the acquisition of Nextel Mexico by AT&T in 2015 and several financing projects of BBVA in Mexico. He has also advised Iberdrola and many Fortune 500 companies such as Procter & Gamble and Goodyear Tire & Rubber.
