João Medeiros & Samuel Fernandes de Almeida found MFA Legal

Two former VdA partners, João Medeiros (pictured right) and Samuel Fernandes (pictured left) have announced the creation of a new project, focusing on tax law, criminal law and risk management. The firm will have a team of 12 people.

“MFA Legal will position itself as a highly specialised ‘boutique’, with a special focus on the areas of taxation, white collar crime, compliance and regulatory, which aims to be innovative when it comes to integrated risk management,” reveal João Medeiros and Samuel Fernandes de Almeida.

According to the two lawyers: “In the market, there is a great demand for highly specialised teams with high expertise. In this sense, we believe we have the right team”. And they add: “Our lawyers have recognised competence and seniority, which results from more than two decades of experience in legal, criminal and tax advice to large companies and individual clients, in projects and matters of high technical complexity.”

In this new structure, João Medeiros, specialist in criminal law, will perform senior partner functions. Samuel Fernandes de Almeida, specialist in tax law, will assume the role of managing partner. The partnership will also include Joana Lobato Heitor (pictured centre), until then associate coordinator of the tax area at VdA, where she worked for the last eight years. The remaining team will be composed of: Catarina Frutuoso dos Santos, Rui Costa Pereira, Inês Almeida e Costa and Bárbara Miragaia.
