ICAM implements key LGTBI inclusion measures
The Madrid Bar Association (Ilustre Colegio de la Abogacía de Madrid – ICAM) has taken a decisive step toward fulfilling one of the core commitments of its governing programme: to ensure a safe, equal, and respectful working environment for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
In a formal meeting with the Works Council, ICAM signed two key regulatory instruments: the Action Plan for Ensuring Effective Equality for LGTBI People and the Protocol Against Harassment or Violence Toward LGTBI Individuals.
“Today, we deliver on a central promise of our governance agenda—to build a more just, equal, and safe ICAM for everyone,” said Lola Fernández Campillo, Board Member for Inclusion and Diversity and President of ICAM’s LGTBI+ Committee. “These measures not only fulfil legal obligations but also reflect a deep, strategic conviction about the College’s role as an ethical and social benchmark—an effort we’ve been advancing since 2022.”
Emilio Ramírez, Board Member for Human Resources, emphasized the institutional commitment: “This project demonstrates our dedication to a modern, inclusive, and respectful approach to people management. A safe environment where professionals can be their authentic selves, free from fear or discrimination, enhances both well-being and professional excellence.”
The documents align with Spain’s Law 4/2023 on real and effective equality for trans and LGTBI individuals, which mandates that organizations with over 50 employees implement an LGTBI equality plan and an anti-harassment protocol. These requirements were further defined by Royal Decree 1026/2024, detailing minimum content and procedures.
The Anti-Harassment Protocol sets out a dedicated mechanism for reporting, investigating, and resolving cases of harassment, grounded in confidentiality, impartiality, protection, and redress.
Both frameworks were developed with technical support from CECA MAGÁN Abogados, in coordination with ICAM’s Human Resources team and employee representatives.
In the coming weeks, ICAM will continue with the implementation of its Diversity and Non-Discrimination Management Plan and will launch a mandatory training programme for all employees, cementing a culture of respect, inclusion, and institutional accountability.
Through these initiatives, ICAM positions itself not only as a compliant organisation but as a leader in fostering a diverse and inclusive legal profession—one committed to advancing human rights and setting standards of excellence for the wider professional community.
