HSF confirms re-appointment of Rebecca Maslen-Stannage as global Chair

Herbert Smith Freehills today announced the re-appointment of Rebecca Maslen-Stannage as senior partner and chair of the Global LLP Council for a second term. The appointment, which follows a partnership vote, takes effect from today until 30 April 2029.

Global CEO Justin D’Agostino added: “We are truly grateful for Rebecca’s leadership as Chair of our firm’s Global Council and its Senior Partner. Bec has done a fantastic job and her re-appointment enables us to continue the exciting journey of bringing our ambitious vision to life and building on what will be our fantastic global platform as Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer.

Rebecca Maslen-Stannage

Maslen-Stannage is one of Australia’s most highly-rated corporate lawyers, advising leading Australian and international clients in private and public M&A, equity capital markets, crisis management and corporate governance.  She is a member of the Takeovers Panel in Australia and has been awarded Australian “Dealmaker of the Year” on several occasions.

As chair and senior partner, Rebecca has continued to advise on high-profile matters including advising SGH on its takeover of Boral, Adbri on its acquisition by CRH and Blackmores on its acquisition by Kirin. She will continue to maintain her practice in conjunction with the role of chair and senior partner.

The news follows the firm’s announcement in April that the firm’s and Kramer Levin’s partnerships have voted overwhelmingly to combine, with Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer expected to launch on 1 June 2025.

Career

Maslen-Stannage has spent her entire career at the firm, having joined legacy Freehills in 1994 as an articled clerk. She became a partner in 2000, with an initial focus on disputes and later joining the corporate practice. In addition to being the client relationship partner for a number of clients, Rebecca is active in recruitment and pro bono initiatives. She is a mentor and sponsor for younger partners.

Rebecca was the deputy senior partner of Herbert Smith Freehills from 2015 to 2019. She served on the firm’s Partnership Council from 2012 to 2019 and as Senior Partner from 2021.

“The firm’s growth and ambitions are accelerating at an unprecedented pace and I look forward to continuing to work with Bec at this important time in our firm’s history.” added D´Agostino.
