Hengeler Mueller and Simpson Thacher advise on Sonae Indústria deal

Hengeler Mueller and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett advised the Arauco group on the acquisition of a stake in the Spanish company Tableros de Fibras.

Under the terms of the deal – which Mergermarket said was valued at €138 million – Arauco acquired the stake from Portugal´s Sonae Indústria.

The deal is part of a “strategic partnership agreement” Sonae Indústria has entered into with Inversiones Arauco Internacional, Limitada, a company belonging to Arauco group.

A Sonae Indústria statement said: “This agreement envisages the creation of a 50/50 joint-venture involving the existing European and South African wood based panels and related operations of Sonae Indústria, namely all its production facilities of wood based panels, chemicals and paper impregnation.”
