Grupo Zeta instructs Cuatrecasas on sale of Ediciones B to Penguin
Cuatrecasas advised Grupo Zeta on selling publisher Ediciones B to Penguin Random House.
The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
Ediciones B’s imprints – including B, Bruguera, Vergara, Nova, B de Blook, B de Books, B de Bolsillo and B.cat – will remain independent following the transfer to Penguin.
Penguin said that objective of the acquisition was to grow its consumer-publishing business in Spain and strengthen its presence in Latin American markets given Ediciones B success in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
The deal means authors such as Nobel Prize winners Svetlana Alexievich, Alice Munro, Mario Vargas Llosa, Gabriel García Márquez, José Saramago, J.M. Coetzee, Orhan Pamuk, Doris Lessing, V.S. Naipaul and Günter Grass will join the Penguin stable, in addition to Cervantes Award winners Elena Poniatowska, Juan Marsé, Guillermo Cabrera Infante and Sergio Pitol.
