Grant Thornton strengthens its presence in Catalonia

Grant Thornton has reinforced its strategic positioning in Catalonia with the appointment of two new partners based in its Barcelona office: Jordi Bachs, who joins as Partner in the Financial Advisory division, and Alexandre Casado, newly appointed Partner in the Tax practice. These appointments are aimed at boosting the firm’s capabilities in two high-demand business areas across the Catalan corporate and institutional landscape.

Jordi Bachs brings more than 18 years of experience in corporate finance and becomes Partner in the Financial Advisory division. He is an expert in business and intangible asset valuation, debt restructuring, and M&A transactions. His career began at PwC and Norgestión before joining the firm in 2013. The Financial Advisory line in Catalonia primarily serves middle-market companies, international subsidiaries, family-owned businesses, and private equity funds—an advisory model that has seen sustained growth in recent years. Notably, the firm reports a global increase of 354% in private equity client activity.

Bachs holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona and a Master’s in Corporate Finance & Law from ESADE. Commenting on his promotion, he said:
“I am deeply grateful for the trust the firm has placed in me. This achievement is the result of years of learning, challenges, and, above all, incredible people who have been part of the journey. I view this promotion as the beginning of a new chapter filled with challenges and opportunities.”

On the Tax side, Alexandre Casado has also been promoted to Partner. He also joined the firm in 2013, following earlier roles at Caixa Terrassa and a boutique tax advisory firm in Barcelona. He specializes in both domestic and international tax advisory, tax planning and restructuring, due diligence, and tax inspections.

In his new role, Casado will guide Catalan businesses through an increasingly complex fiscal landscape, marked by regional tax reforms, new sustainability obligations, advancements in tax digitalization, and the implementation of global minimum tax rules. Additionally, the potential transfer of new tax powers to Catalonia introduces regulatory uncertainty, demanding agility from businesses.

Over his career, Alexandre has advised high-profile clients including TikTok, Vinted, General Electric, Hilton, Hoxton, Equatorial Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Villeroy & Boch, and MCLAREN. He holds a degree in Business Administration from the University of Barcelona and a Master’s in Tax Advisory and Management from ESADE. He is also a frequent speaker at tax forums.

“My goal is to continue contributing to the growth of our Tax division and to strengthen the trusted relationships we have with our clients by offering technical excellence, close collaboration, and tailored solutions,” said Alexandre Casado.

The Barcelona office has seen steady growth over the years and now boasts a multidisciplinary team of 200 professionals. “The promotions of Jordi and Alexandre reflect Grant Thornton’s commitment to internal talent development and professional excellence. We invest in professionals who understand business, offer strategic vision, and support our clients through their growth journey. This expansion in Barcelona strengthens our mission to build a solid, dynamic firm ready to lead in the face of emerging business challenges,” stated Ramón Galcerán, President of the firm.
